John J. Barnes, M.D., followed in the footsteps of his grandfather who was a “horse and buggy” physician, and father, who was an OB/GYN.

After being raised in Atlanta and attending Westminster, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. He then pursued his interest in the medical field and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. Following his OB/GYN training in Winston-Salem, NC, Dr. Barnes moved to Macon to join the practice. Dr. Barnes was instrumental in bringing 24/7 midwifery care to the Middle Georgia area and serves as one of the collaborative physicians for women with high risk pregnancies. He serves as the Medical Director for Core Healthcare for Women, which specializes in and advocates for unplanned pregnancies and other women’s health needs.
Dr. Barnes and his wife Kim have nine children and three grandchildren. Dr. Barnes is a Duke basketball fan and enjoys watching soccer and the Atlanta Braves. He and his family are active members of Ingleside Baptist Church. Dr. Barnes is looking forward to his daughter, Sydney, completing the OB/GYN residency program at Navicent Health and becoming a fourth-generation doctor.
